On November 23, 1876, representatives from Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and Columbia met in the Massasoit Residence resort in Springfield, Massachusetts to standardize a whole new code of regulations dependant on the rugby activity first introduced to Harvard by McGill University in 1874. The rules were based largely around the Rugby Football Union's code from England, although 1 essential distinction was the replacement of a kicked goal with a touchdown as the primary means of here scoring (a change that may afterwards manifest in rugby alone, favoring the consider as the principle scoring function).

The first 4-workforce league expanded to sixteen teams in 1933 when Pop Warner, who had just been hired as the new coach of the Temple University football team, agreed to give a lecture towards the boys inside the league. In his honor, the league was renamed the Pop Warner Convention.[209][210]
